Days 4-5
Day 4
What a great Monday it was!!
The breeze kept things a little cooler here for us on Monday although it was still very hot and humid, the breeze was a gift from God and a constant reminder that the Holy Spirit was with us all day long!
Monday we were able to see 26 patients including an inspirational single mother of a young daughter. This mother had lost half of her leg in a work accident (amputated above the knee) 6 years ago when her daughter was only 8 years old. Ever since, her young daughter has been taking care of her since their entire family consists of just those two strong women! This mother’s faith was beyond inspirational as she spoke about how thankful she was to God about all He has given her, despite the challenges. Her daughter also showed extreme strength and responsibility at the young age of 14! Although countless health complications present themselves to this mother, her smile lit up the entire room, especially when she spoke about her faith in Jesus! A truly powerful and inspirational moment for us all!
Day 5
The food here continues to be amazing!! Our hosts’ meal preparation has been nothing less than phenomenal and unique! Daily they provide us with a traditional Guatemalan meal for lunch which is always prepared beautifully and is always so delicious!
Clinic today was busier than days past with a total of 45 patients! All of our patients today had a wide age range from 1 year old to 79 years old! Most of which were extremely healthy and needed not much more than a routine check up and some vitamins!! Praise God!!
After our traditional homemade lunch, we headed over to a very small village-like setting in a garbage landfill in the city we have our clinic in. This landfill is home to an extremely poor community of a couple hundred people who are also associated with a Lutheran church through a volunteer program to help provide the children with an education and the families with a safe place in Christ! This program was started by a group of missionaries from Wichita, KS who began the process of financially supporting some of this group, but also began building a small cinder block schoolhouse for the children to have their classes in.
The smiles on the faces of these children were a light to each of us! This experience was a great reminder that with Jesus in your heart, joy is found in everything, no matter how big or small!
Please continue to keep our team in your prayers as well as the families of these children and the children themselves who are in this unfortunate situation.
